And when ends are not being met you realize that publishing is broken too & start looking for alternative ways to bring your writing to the masses directly & eventually discover Substack. At least that's more or less how I ended up here... Great post! (Btw I'd recommend Chokepoint Capitalism by Rebecca Giblin & Cory Doctorow on how bad publishing is broken & how it might be fixed.)
And you're in Austria too?! There seem to be quite a few of us here!
The crackdown on the right to assemble and protest in the U.S. is happening here, too. Manuel Esteban Paez Terán was shot to death in his tent for being part of a small group protecting a forest area. I focus on the #ClimateEmergency and fully expect more of this. https://geoffreydeihl.substack.com/p/the-real-eco-terrorists
Preach. I feel like I'm just about to fall off of the corporate ladder myself. It's so overwhelmingly depressing. I'm finally at a point in my life where I'm making good money, and I'm miserable and exhausted. I just want off of this stupid treadmill.
Thank you Antonio🙏 And I am sure it is a question of when. Even if people, would not like to change the way we are living now, the world and nature will change it. This current system is unmaintainable and that is a fact. We will run out of resources and will not be able to maintain it. So the question is just when it will all collapse. For my part I’m currently trying to work my way to a position where I can begin to learn to live in a radically different way before everything collapses. This way I hope that by the time everybody needs to change the way of living I have already learned something and I can help, and teach others.
Bravo! For telling it as it is. Fortunately for me, your aspirations to wealth and fame vanished after serving and knowing such as their servant for a few years (i.e. the Jet Set). Seeing what was coming I strived, experimented, to live in harmony with our planet. Living on a small boat through the 80s and avoiding the madness of corporate employment, etc... But, our world did not end as fast as I anticipated.... momentum!
I do at 81, bike, kayak fish and limit all travel to a 100km radius. Really not hard to minimize one's impact and appreciate our environment, an ongoing lifestyle.
First of all, be honest about your reasons to rebel. A refugee in Austrian society..hmm doesn’t sound like a fair start. I doubt that you ever will be fully accepted in mainstream society unless you conform/surrender. Yes, a reason to be angry, I've been there too:). But anger is never the solution. Stop reacting against the system, change the state of play. Be and live the world you really want. That is the only true revolution. Because the system needs you....the big secret they don't tell you (because of the power it gives you) is that you are tomorrow's system. And finding the right path for yourself is fucking hard work, but the journey is worth every minute of it. As you keep finding gems on the path. Some of the ones I found over the years are Systemic Consensus (which I hope will replace divisive democracy one day - as it is radical on a very fundamental level) https://sk-prinzip.eu/ - see it in action at 12:00 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsO-b0_r-5Y ECG https://www.ecogood.org/what-is-ecg/ To me the real hero’s of the future > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UaHip9P1tQ&list=LL&index=242&t=12s and this guy went the full mile > https://www.fermedubec.com/ I just bought his 1000 page resource book. Yeah, I get you. Many others feel the same. It's just... empty.

That's a great attitude and a great way of preparing! I want to go this way myself, but got a lot of work ahead of me for sure. Keep it up!

Thanks Peter! Keep experimenting and living the life, it's what I will try to do!

That sounds amazing! I'm planning a great two-month solo-trip across the Austrian alps. Will write about that soon. I'm already beyond excited
My first ski trip was to st. Anton, Zurs @ 1956!
